Hi all,I don't use FinkCommander, but I know how the proxy settings in Fink work, so I can guess at the caues:
I have been using for some time a former version of FinkCommander (0.3) in a MacOS X.1.5 environment, through a firewall, without any problem.
I have now installed Fink 0.5 and FinkCommander 0.4.3 on another partition, under MacOS X.2.2.
I have configured the proxy settings using "fink configure", and now dselect or apt-get work fine.
But when I try to use FinkCommander, e.g. asking for "Update descriptions", I get the long list of error messsages hereafter. It looks like FinkCommander is not able to go through the firewall.
I have checked the proxy settings in Preferences/Download: they are exactly identical to those entered through "fink configure".
I have first submitted this question to FinkCommander Users mailing list, but got no reply so I'm trying here.
The proxy settings are stored in various environment variables (HTTP_PROXY, FTP_PROXY etc) which tools like wget/curl/apt-get etc. honor. However due to the way graphical applications (like FinkCommander) are run compared to the way command line applications are run, the environment variables of FinkCommander never contains these settings. Environment variables are inherited, though: when one program launches another program, that new program "inherits" the environment of the program it was launched by. Hence when FinkCommander launches "apt-get", then "apt-get" inherits the env of FC which contains no HTTP_PROXY etc.
I guess this needs to be fixed in FinkCommander somehow.
