Joseph: If you have updated to tcltk 8.4 recently, you may need to rebuild python (if python was compiled with 8.3.4 tkinter won't work with 8.4). If that doesn't do it, please send the error message that you get when you try to run idle. (Note: You must have a X server running and the DISPLAY variable set to do this!)
