Thanks Michele.  That seems to have been the only problem.  I'm sort of
confused about how such an obvious syntactic error (so obvious I somehow
failed to see it!) got in there in the first place.  I can't imagine that
the process of upgrading would have put it there, and I hadn't touched the
file myself in months, yet XDarwin was working fine yesterday before I did
all the upgrades.  Anyway, at least it's fixed now.
