Hi guys,
I heard that less and less of you are maintaining packages for system
10.1. I'm still stuck with this system, but I want to keep up to date with
new versions of my favorite apps. Then, is is possible to substitute the
packages for 10.1 with 10.2? For instance, if I want to update my version
of xdrawchem (1.3) with the latest available version (1.6), can I grab the
info and patch files from cvs and substitute with these files in the
appropriate folder within /sw....?
In most cases, this is not possible. You would have to do some serious backporting work. For xdrawchem, for example, 10.2 uses openbabel that is not in 10.1.
If this is trivial, (as in - yeah this will always work), then can I reconfigure my fink installation so that it thinks it's running on 10.1?
You mean 10.2? No, if you do this, you can be pretty sure that almost nothing will work any more.
