Geoff, Sound is one of the trickiest issues on Darwin/OS X, due to Apple's introduction of IOKit -- a completely different model for device drivers, when compared with Linux or the BSDs. As a result, porting programs or libraries from other flavors of Unix which involve sound is much more difficult than the average port, and at present, many of those ports are of relatively low quality. There are similar problems for video, but fortunately X11 has been ported and so provides a method to get stuff running on OS X. However, this explains why "native" OS X versions of X11 apps have been slow to appear. -- Dave ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: VM Ware With VMware you can run multiple operating systems on a single machine.
