Subject: [Fink-users] Fink/cvs over a SOCK4 proxy?

I'm currently getting my internet access from a LAN provided by the
apartment I'm in. For the most part it's worked well, but
unfortunately, recently they've decided to block most outgoing ports,
citing various bandwidth reasons; unfortunately, one of the ones they've
blocked is cvs (2401). This means I can't update fink.

Fortunately, SSH is still allowed; for all of the other programs that
have been blocked that I need, I've been able to make an SSH connection
to an outside server and set it up to dynamically forward ports, then
have the programs I need use that as a SOCKS4 proxy. However, I can't
seem to find an option to do this anywhere in fink, or with cvs.. Is
there some config file somewhere that I can edit?

I've also tried setting cvs.sourceforge.net to 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts,
and then forwarding port 2401 directly over SSH, but when called by fink
cvs seems to ignore /etc/hosts, and still tries to connect to
66.35.250.207. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
P. J.
