Hi,

I'm running the X11 server provided by Apple in combination with the
system-xfree86 placeholder. When doing a `fink update-all`, I run into
the same problem others have mentioned in the fink-users and
fink-beginners lists before.

When doing the update-all, fink first asks me which pango-xft version to
use. As I'm running Xfree86 4.2, I choose pango1-xft1-dev. It then start
to compile pango1-xft1-1.0.5-2, and gives me the following error :

You have Xft2 installed. This usually means you have XFree86
(>= 4.3) installed. pango1(-shlibs|-dev) cannot be built with
Xft2. You should use pango1-xft2 package instead.

### execution of /var/tmp/tmp.0.FoSoiI failed, exit code 1
Failed: compiling pango1-xft1-1.0.5-2 failed

But, a simple `dpkg -l` shows me I don't have Xft2 installed.

Doing the same thing but choosing pango1-xft2 results in the installation of
the Xfree86 server provided by fink. I'm not sure I want this.

Now I've seen several people running into the same problems on the mailinglists
archives, but none of the solutions provided seem to help.

Can anybody give me a helping hand here ? :)

This means that you somehow have libraries from xfree86 4.3 installed, but you have xfree 4.2 installed over it. You can try removing /usr/X11R6/lib/libXft.2.* and run it again, but it's likely other things could get confused. Best bet would be to remove /usr/X11R6 altogether and re-install the apple X11, if you still have the installer package handy.
