My python installation is screwed up. I can't install, for example, numeric-py23. I've tried dozens of permutations of commands, but I always end up with the following message:

----------------------------------

Preparing to replace python 1:2.3-1 (using .../python_2.3-1_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement python ...
Preparing to replace python23 1:2.3-1 (using .../python23_2.3-1_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement python23 ...
Preparing to replace python23-shlibs 1:2.3-1 (using .../python23-shlibs_2.3-1_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement python23-shlibs ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of python23:
python23 depends on python23-shlibs (= 2.3-1); however:
Version of python23-shlibs on system is 1:2.3-1.

---------------------

notice that it says that it's going to replace python23 1:2.3-1. However, it seems that python23 is not installed, and all attempts to install or update python23 fail.

% fink list -i python
Information about 2976 packages read in 13 seconds.

i python23-shlibs 1:2.3-1 Interpreted, object-oriented language
i python23-socket 1:2.3-1 Socket plugin for python

Furthermore, it says that python23 is looking for python23-shlibs 2.3-1, while the system has 1:2.3-1

I've tried to uninstall, purge, and the equivalent of rm -r python* /sw followed by reinstalls. Nothing changes.

Any clues?
