I had the same problem so I switched to Gnome.  Gnome does not have any of
the problems that KDE does in Panther.  My problem was that all the text
look horrible and such.  I think that I found somewhere that KDE does not
play well with quartz in panther.  However, I don't remember where I found
that information.  They had information about all different kinds of window
managers like KDE and Gnome.  Gnome is suppose to work well with panther.
