Any help would be appreciated.

I'm told that putting the following in your .xinitrc helps:

/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap -e "keycode 78 = Left"
/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap -e "keycode 74 = Right"

...if it does, let me know, I've had mixed results and I want to be sure this really helps people other than me (I'm working with prerelease kde and an XFree86 cvs snapshot =)

No luck here. I can't even find a key on my keyboard that generates keycodes 78 or 74 according to xev.

Oh, wait a minute. Maybe it did help. It helps on new instances of KDE apps but not old ones (that were running when I executed xmodmap). I would say it's a success!

So I'll try to put these in my .xinitrc, but I've also had problems with that. It looks like $DISPLAY is set to :0 (not :0.0) as .xinitrc is being executed. This (I think) prevents xmodmap from working correctly. Am I misunderstanding something?

Thanks again,
