I've not had any problem with launch on either of my boxes.

When you say that your PowerBook prompts for a login and password, this is the OSX login screen, i.e. graphical, as opposed to a text-only login screen? Are you able to use Preferences->Accounts->Set Auto Login, or is that grayed out (i.e. you're the only user)?

If the latter, you might try creating a new user temporarily, but make sure that your current user is set to auto-login.

Hello. I'm encountering a very odd situation, and am hoping someone
here can duplicate this to assure me that I'm not insane, point me in
the right direction, etc.

About a month or so ago, I made a fresh install of OSX 10.2 and
installed Fink. Everything worked fine until I tried to install, using
apt and the stable binary distribution, w3m-el. This installed the
launch package. As soon as launch installed, OSX began prompting for a
login/password when booted, which it didn't before. This seemed odd to
me, as I didn't think Fink tweaked my boot sequence at all. Yet when I
removed w3m/launch, the problem went away. Furthermore, when I
configured my system to update from CVS and, eventually, rsync, the
updated launch package worked fine and I wasn't prompted for a
password.

I've done a "fink selfupdate" recently, and the behavior began
again. My powerbook now prompts for a login and password when
booted. Before, the situation was very cut-n-dry, as I'd installed
few packages and could simply "dpkg --purge" until the problem went
away. But I now have dozens of packages installed, and I'm not sure
which is the cause, or even *if* Fink is at fault. I'm not as familiar
with OSX as I am with Linux, and I realize Fink doesn't affect the
boot sequence in any way, but my experiences with launch seem to hint
that there are factors in play that I'm not familiar with. I've tried
removing launch, but that hasn't solved the problem. My next step is
to completely remove and reinstall Fink, being much more selective
about my selfupdate/update-all habits, but I'd like to see if anyone
has any other suggestions, as the notion that Fink is at fault for
this seems very far-fetched to me.

Also, and I don't know if this helps, but I've noticed that certain
pieces of state aren't being saved over reboots. Specifically, my
sound volume used to be saved fine, but it now seems to be set to the
same value on startup, regardless of whether it is maxed out,
deactivated completely, etc.

Any suggestions? Can anyone else duplicate the issues with the current
stable release and copy of launch?

Thanks.
