This finally got fixed by force removing freetype2-shlibs when compiling kdelibs3. And when I installed kdebase3, it reinstalled freetype2-shlibs anyway. I played around a little with KDE to make sure things were ok, and nothing drastic stood out at first glance. Thanks for the help.
