I've post it to the list and I'm still waiting for ur advice.. I
dpkg-deb -b root-fink-prebinding-0.5-1 /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary- darwin-powerpc/base ### execution of dpkg-deb failed, exit code 10 Failed: can't create package fink-prebinding_0.5-1_darwin-powerpc.deb
This is very odd to me: there's no error prior to the "exit code 10". I couldn't find that code in the dpkg or dpkg-deb manpages, either, so I'm not sure what it means in human language.
Last time d0k posted this, I even had a hard look at the dpkg sources and found no explicit error code 10. It must transmit some error 10 from some system routine or other. In <errno.h> error is ECHILD "No child processes" which I don't know.
I suspected one of the known evildoers, namely Stufiit Pro's kext, but apparently d0k doesn't have this. To exclude this kind of error, let me ask d0k explicitly:
Could you run "kextstat" from the command line? This gives you a long list where in the last column you usually have something starting with "com.apple.". Are there lines that do *not* have "com.apple.*" but something else, like I have, for example, a line with "org.gnufoo.kext.uControl (1.3.7)" which comes from the uControl application. If you have such non-Apple kernel extensions, try to disable them and see if this changes something.
Of course, this error could be something else entirely, like what Alexander suggested, a full filesystem, or too many processes already running (532 max allowed) or something else. I haven't seen this before.
