nohup gimp &
I've used it from the command line to make a process continue running after I've logged out. Don't see why it shouldn't work for you.

The GIMP will start up. If I close the xterm window, GIMP will close as well. It didn't used to do this on Jaguar, so I can only assume that I have my .bashrc and .bash_profile files not in working order.
--.bashrc-- if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then . /etc/bashrc fi source /sw/bin/init.sh
--.bash_profile-- if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then . ~/.bashrc fi . /sw/bin/init.sh
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

PS - Originally when I installed FINK, all it added was the last line to my .bash_profile, and I noticed that when I was in X11, it would not find any of the FINK programs.
