I believe that quartz-wm isn't fully KDE-compliant, but startkde insists on invoking it to use as the window manager if it's present. You can put the following in your ~/.xinitrc :

export KDEWM=/sw/bin/kwin
exec quartz-wm --only-proxy &
exec startkde

The first line forces startkde to use kwin, and the second invokes the Command-key bindings for quartz-wm, but doesn't actually start the window manager.

After a layoff for a while, I'm back to running fink+kde, but while I finally got the configuration for the Apple X11 where I wanted it for coexistence with KDE, I can't seem to get any but the first virtual desktop established. The config screens say I have added more (I usually want 8) but they don't show up in the pager (I see only one) and I can't switch to any mor with the keyboard mapping I use for that, control-plus.

Anyone know any trick I might use to get me those virtual desktops again? They used to work in Jaguar's (read fink's) X11 (I didn't use Apple's X11 back then).

Thanks
