This was a source install in which I was not prompted to choose between system-tetx or tetex package. Instead the system as noted in my original message containing the terminal output, chose an appropriate file to meet the dependency and then an error with dpkg occured. I have included the terminal output again for reference below:

Unpacking system-tetex (from .../system-tetex_20010808-12_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...

You don't a valid teTeX installation; you were missing
/usr/local/teTeX/lib/libkpathsea.a /usr/local/teTeX/include/kpathsea/tex-file.h /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf

Install the tetex-texmf and tetex-base packages instead,
or install teTeX manually from
http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/texshop.html
and then retry installing the system-tetex package.

Were you doing a binary install or a source install? If it was binary, then I believe that what happened is that apt-get selected system-tetex for you--I've had similar things happen.

If, on the other hand, you were doing a source install, then you should have been prompted to pick system-tetex or tetex.

In either case, you'll want to install the "tetex" package (and any dependencies that come up).

teTex is not installed on my system. Rather, when installing a kde application using fink teTex was required as a dependency and as noted in the previous email there was an error with dpkg in intalling the dependency. My issue then is why dpkg is giving me error messages with regard to installing this dependency.

Well, do you have a teTeX distribution installed? system-tetex is a placeholder to let Fink know about such a thing.

If, on the other hand, you wanted to install tetex, you should install the tetex package.

While installing a package with a dependency on tetex I obtained the following dpkg error installing the tetex pakages. I am running 10.3.1 with fink 0.6.2 and package manager 0.16.2. Additionally, Apple X11 and X11SDK are also installed.

Thanks for any help.
