Hi,
I've been unable to complete an update-all of kde using unstable under
10.3 for some time now. I've been watching the list and checked the
bugs and it appears no one else has this problem. It looks as if the
problem starts with "libtool: link: cannot find the library
`/sw/lib/libncurses.la''"and in fact I don't have it in spite of
rebuilding ncurses.
I'd appreciate knowing whether this is this a known problem or whether
I'm messed up.
Evan
Hi,
Just in case anyone is interested, I've resolved this problem myself.
ncurses must be configured with '-with--libtool' before it will generate libncurses.la but as delivered ncurses.info doesn't contain
Hmm, looking at the ncurses info file and its cvs log, it seems to me that in spite of Ben Reed's earlier answer to you, the --with-libtool flag and the libncurses.la file were quite deliberately removed from the package. As a source for your problem, I would have bet on some leftover /sw/lib/lib*.la file that was built on Jaguar and that has libncurses.la hardcoded. With your hacked ncurses and especially your /sw/bin/libtool, you may be in for quite a number of new "surprising behaviors". But Ben R would know this better, of course.
