so, selfupdate always used to work fine for me. i upgraded fink commander to the latest and now i get, after pages and pages of stuff:

Failed: Can't move "/sw/fink" out of the way

i have no idea whether the upgrade is related, since i also upgraded on my powerbook and didn't have this problem.

i've tried running the selfupdate as root and as my own username. i'm accessing CVS anonymously w/ no password. the perms on /sw and /sw/fink are:

partita 0/66 /sw% ls -lad .
drwxr-xr-x 13 root admin 442 25 Apr 01:43 ./
partita 0/67 /sw% ls -lad fink
drwxr-xr-x 16 dpetrou admin 544 6 Apr 09:39 fink/

the only other info i can think to provide is that the selfupdate seems to be doing a ton more stuff than it usually does... lots of link (ln) lines that aren't usual toward the end, right before failure, for instance.

thanks,
david

Are you using CVS selfupdate? You might want to try rsync in any case.

You may have a fink.old or fink.tmp directory (I can't remember which gets created) under /sw at well, and this might need to be manually removed.
