So here's my summary: I found the Jaguar version of Apple's X11. It is annoying and unstable, at least in my extremely short experience with it. It is annoying because of its click-to-focus policy and its complete mismanagement of what I always think of as standard login and profile scripts (e.g., .xinitrc, .bash_profile, etc.). YMMV. Perhaps a clever method of dumping only the relevant and useful parts of an existing environment to ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist would be useful. Or maybe I'm too old and stuck in my ways to spend enough time to learn new tricks now. It is unstable because xterm crashed each and every time I filled up a screen and it had to scroll. Every time. Like clockwork. In any case, I dumped it like a hot potato and moved on to building my own XFree86 4.4.0. It took almost two hours (on my 500MHz G4), but the build could not have gone smoother. And then xmms also built without a hitch, so it looks like Martin was right: there was something wrong with my X11. I still don't have a libXplugin, but now I don't care. ;-) I got one song to play (the London Philharmonic's tribute to Pink Floyd's _Time_), and then I think my esound daemon hung up while I was playing with some other options. I'll keep playing (pun intended) and come back if I have more problems. Thank you for all of your help and your continued efforts with fink. Dan Sommers -- Dan Sommers Atoms are not things.
