Hi,

I tried to install the binary of pan, but failed:

    $ sudo apt-get install pan
    Password:
    Reading Package Lists... Done
    Building Dependency Tree... Done
    Package pan has no available version, but exists in the database.
    This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and
    never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents
    of sources.list
    E: Package pan has no installation candidate

I have also run apt-get update, and get the same thing again.

Yes, there is no pan in the 0.6.3 binary distribution. I don't know the exact reason, but perhaps some of its dependencies were not in stable when the bindist was made. You can get an older version which may or may not work, from an earlier bindist (0.5.3) by adding the following line to your /sw/etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://us.dl.sourceforge.net/fink/direct_download 10.2/release main

Otherwise, compile yourself (as you do) or upgrade your OSX :-)
