Thanks, Alexander - the main mirrors seem to work. When a download failed, fink gives option what to do next:
(1) Give up
(2) Retry the same mirror
(3) Retry another mirror from your country
(4) Retry another mirror
(5) Retry using next mirror set "sourceforge"


and by choosing the default answer I got fink to cycle through all the mirrors under *finkmirrors.net (options 2,3,4) but never to use the main mirrors. That is option 5, and after exhausting options 2,3,4 the default choice is 1 - give up. Maybe it would make sense to add option 5 as a default choice before giving up ?

I was able to get the sources for imagemagick and gimp2 with no problems. Are you downloading from the main sources or one of the Fink Master mirrors? The latter take a while to pick up new sources.
