Interesting. On my system I have stdexcept (I picked that because "string" would have given too many entries in the locate database) in the following places:

/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.1.5.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/2.95.2/g++/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.1.5.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.1/g++-v3/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.2.8.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/2.95.2/g++/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.2.8.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.1/g++-v3/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.2.8.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.3/c++/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.0.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/2.95.2/g++/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.0.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.1/g++-v3/ stdexcept
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.0.sdk/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.3/c++/ stdexcept
/usr/include/gcc/darwin/2.95.2/g++/stdexcept
/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.1/g++-v3/stdexcept
/usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.3/c++/stdexcept

Presumably you've got missing files in the 2.95 tree. Try reinstalling the gcc2.95 package.

OK, that did the trick. I believe that when I upgraded to Xcode 1.5, I didn't have it upgrade gcc2.95. So (presumably) I still had the fink gcc2.95 virtual package, but maybe it wasn't complete.

Once lyx was done, then it bombed out with the recent wxpython-py23 error. But that was easily fixed by following the instructions that have already been posted.

Information about 3950 packages read in 2 seconds.
(i) lyx-qt 1.3.5-1 Wordprocessor utilizing LaTeX (QT version)

This makes it look to me like lyx-qt-1.3.5-1 is already installed - or is it?

No: it means that 1.3.5-1 is the latest available version.

I thought that the (i) preceding the line meant it was installed. Does it mean here that I have a _previous_ version installed? Which I did. If so, how can I differentiate?

In any case, thanks for the solution. Keep up the good work!

Mike
