OK well I had to use cp instead of mv. How silly of me! All working fine now. David.

Weird - I can't explain this but I know what happened now. I downloaded the cc1plus_12 file to my desktop, moved it to <x-tad-bigger>/usr/libexec/gcc/darwin/ppc/3.3</x-tad-bigger> and then made a symlink to it from cc1plus. The thing is that when I delete it from my desktop, it asks for authentication and then deletes it from <x-tad-bigger>/usr/libexec/gcc/darwin/ppc/3.3</x-tad-bigger>. How can that be!?! OK well at least I know what the problems is ... Cheers, David.

Sorry, you can disregard my last message as I fixed it. I don't know how it happened, but the cc1plus_12 file I downloaded from Martin's web site wasn't in the right place, so my symlink wasn't pointing to anything, and thus it was failing. I don't really know how it happened as I just went back through my commands with readline and I moved it to the right place... anyway not to worry, I'm compiling away happily at the moment. Sorry for the interruption! Cheers, David.

Subject: C++ preprocessor fails sanity check

Hi Fink users. I installed XTools 1.5 a while ago now, before realising that it had a broken gcc. Anyway, I've followed the instructions on the Fink web page to move my gcc out of the way and symlink to the file downloaded from Martin's website. However, it seems like I've done something wrong. First, I got warnings that gcc wasn't executable, so I fixed this by changing the permissions to make it executable, and also changed the owner to root and the group to wheel. Now, in compiling db, it fails with the following:

gzip -dc /sw/src/db-4.2.52.NC.tar.gz | /sw/bin/tar -xvf - --no-same-owner --no-same-permissions
db-4.2.52.NC/
db-4.2.52.NC/LICENSE
db-4.2.52.NC/README
db-4.2.52.NC/btree/
db-4.2.52.NC/btree/bt_compare.c

<snip />

checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
### execution of /var/tmp/tmp.1.Qp9qni failed, exit code 1
Failed: compiling db42-4.2.52-13 failed

I'm not sure where config.log is. Does anyone know how to fix up what I've done? Cheers in advance. I can paste more info if necessary. David.
