This doesn't help much, but I can report the same error as reported by others, on two different machines (400 MHz G4 and an 867 MHz Al PB). If I can supply any more info to help work out what it is, let me know (but I'm going to be away for till next week anyway, so it might be solved by then ... ).
If you could, please tar up /tmp/buildlog and e-mail it to me (privately, it'll be pretty big). That would help a lot...
