Just to be clear: I was talking about /sw/var/db/finkapt.db. This one is *not* updated when you run 'apt-get update', only when you run 'fink selfupdate' with the '-b' flag or equivalent. I don't know if finkapt.db is necessary for 'fink -b install' to work correctly or if the apt package lists are sufficient. In any case, it is not mentioned in the man page.
