Not what happened on my system: I had already built the new gv against the new xaw3d (and possibly other things too). I reverted to the old xaw3d and xfig worked again. But gv did not, I had to rebuild it against the old library:

gv something.ps.gz
dyld: gv can't open library: /sw/lib/libXaw3d.8.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Trace/BPT trap

What I have _not_ tried (because I assume you already tried it and it doesn't work) is to build xfig against the new xaw3d.

What I want to know is what else breaks and needs rebuilding if you change the version of xaw3d...so I can rebuild them before I discover they are broken at some awkward future time.
