I have a manually-installed version of xfree86-4.4. Checking the creation dates of files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config, all files have a creation date of March 2, 2004, except the Imake.rules file, which has a creation date of April 14, 2004.
Replacing the Imake.rules file with one downloaded the link below seems to resolve the issue.
