Alright -- now I'm starting to wonder if I need to uninstall and reinstall something/anything. I reinstalled (a.k.a. Upgraded) MacOSX10.3DevSDK AND the gcc 3.1 installer. Finally, to force it, I used Pacifist to install crtbegin.o from the Xcode 1.5 disk, since installation wasn't making this happen. Now, the fink installation gets further but still fails to complete.
