This is the disadvantage of this method: You download all of the debs that exist on the server, even if you don't want them locally. But bandwidth and disk capacity being as they are nowadays, this will probably not matter in comparison with the time spent on multiple compilations.

One of my machines is a G3 iBook with a 10Gb disk where disk space does matter a bit. Yes, optimally I'd prefer to fetch the required debs only as and when they are needed, via ssh or an ssh tunnel. But I think judicious use of fink cleanup and the options in unison to only partially sync will work nearly as well.


I will test for a while and then report back with a summary of the instructions needed to make it work (for possible transfer to the fink website docs).
