the latex-beamer package (latex-beamer-3.01-1) installs and works without problems within my fink-installed tetex, but then I wanted to try it from lyx and couldn't access the layout file that the beamer package provides. The problem is simple: there is a file "beamer.layout" that is supposed to be installed by the latex-beamer package, but it ends up in the wrong directory (/sw/share/lyx). I think it should go either into /sw/share/lyx/layouts or (as a symlink) into ~/.lyx/layouts/ (in the user's home directory). Once I corrected this by hand, the beamer package showed up in lyx and worked without problems (after following the reconfiguration procedure required by lyx).
