I'm also German, but run into this with a user set to all English. 
Interestingly I tried running the run_markup_tests.sh script 
manually and it only causes the bus error when run as root (as at least 
my fink does). Hacking the script to use another user makes "make check"
succeed. Does that give anyone a clue?
