I didn't have any such problem--which is in part why they're written as they are. What was the nature of your breakage? You've not given us much to go on here to give us a basis to make any changes. Also, when you say "the instructions", which page were you looking at? It _is_ possible that something got corrected in one place but not another. The reason for the recommendation is that "fink" commands accessing the binary distribution is turned on by default now--if you don't run "fink scanpackages" first after changing operating system versions there are a bunch of relatively harmless messages that get reported on the mailing lists. For a fresh install, you still will want to run "fink scanpackages" to avoid getting messages such as those in http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php?phpLang=en#packages-gz -- Alexander K.
