The Finder only recognizes OS X applications (not Unix applications) as entities that can open files. I, personally, use XDroplets. ( http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/xdroplets.html ) This tool creates wrappers to a Unix application that the Finder recognizes as being able to open files. The wrappers support drag-and-drop to open files, as well. They even open X11 automatically if it's not running. -- Alexander K.
