Ah!  That can be problematic because the default doesn't always pick
the same flavor (-ssl vs non-ssl)--I think it's alphabetical.  There's
a way to force fink to pick -ssl as default via a flag in fink.conf.

No.  The "make" you see from Fink is a completely separate one from
that in XCode.  if you run "/usr/bin/make --version" you can see which
version that XCode 2.2 installed.  I'd recommend removing the
Fink-installed make package.

Go ahead and try XCode 2.2.1--it's the official latest version.

Interesting.   Try installing the Fink texi2html package and see if
that works better.
