"fink cleanup" is absolutely irrelevant here: it removes outdated source files and binary archvies. "fink index" might have done something, but apparently not in this case. Fink commander has its own method of keeping track of the Fink package database. If you do "fink list -n" do you see any packages? (That should show those that aren't installed.) By the way, it's never a good idea to muck around in /sw manually (except perhaps /sw/etc for configuration purposes). I told you to dump the Fink commander preference file because I knew that that wouldn't do anything bad to your underlying Fink setup. -- Alexander K.
