I have installed matplotlib from fink. I have tried to run all the simple examples on the web, and either fail at the command

plot ([1,2,3,4])
[<matplotlib.lines.Line2D instance at 0x2a84e68>]

or when I do show() it says it can't find the backend. There is all sorts of advice on where to put the matplotlibrc file and how to modify it, and Ihave tried several of those, and all produce an error of some kind. If someone can give me some definitive advice on this Iwould appreciate it.

Running OS 10.4.6
fink --versio
Package manager version: 0.24.15
Distribution version: 0.8.0.rsync

And using python2.4 iall installed from Fink.

Thanks
