I guess no-one else is using a web proxy? Anyway, I have been trying to solve this by getting the machine in question (pippin) to talk only to my deb server (quince) which does have direct internet access).
I have managed to get it to only selfupdate (rsync) with quince, so I thought all was well. But trying to update all, it is insisting on fetching the deb for libncursesw5-shlibs from the bindist, which it can't reach. I have rebuilt libncursesw5 on quince, done scanpackages and selfupdated on pippin, commented out various lines in fink.conf, all to no avail. Now, there really shouldn't be a problem, since pippin does have web proxy access, and this is configured in fink, and works fine for web browsers. I think there is something wrong with the parsing of this part of the configuration, because I don't think I should see the following when it tries to fetch the deb from the bindist: Err http://bindist.finkmirrors.net 10.4/release/main libncursesw5-shlibs 5.4-20041023-1001 Could not connect to 3128:80 (0.0.12.56). - connect (60 Operation timed out) Failed to fetch http://bindist.finkmirrors.net/bindist/dists/fink-0.8.1/main/binary-darwin-powerpc//base/libncursesw5-shlibs_5.4-20041023-1001_darwin-powerpc.deb Could not connect to 3128:80 (0.0.12.56). - connect (60 Operation timed out) Surely "3128:80 (0.0.12.56)" is wrong somehow? So a) how do I fix the web proxy problem? or b) how can I get it to forget about the bindist andfetch libncursesw5-shlibs from quince? many thanks, -- Viv On Tue, 26 Sep 2006, Viv Kendon wrote: > From: Viv Kendon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: Fink Users Mailing List <[email protected]> > Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 14:55:08 +0100 (BST) > Subject: [Fink-users] proxy problems with latest fink (0.25.0-31 ppc) > > I have just selfupdated a machine behind a web proxy, and I > get the following when I try to run fink scanpackages: > > /sw/bin/apt-get-lockwait -q update > Err http://bindist.finkmirrors.net 10.4/release/main > Packages > Could not connect to 3128:80 (0.0.12.56). - connect (60 > Operation timed out) > Err http://quince.leeds.ac.uk stable/main Packages > Could not connect to 3128:80 (0.0.12.56). - connect (60 > Operation timed out) > > Note that it happens for both finkmirrors, and a local > machine quince, which is reachable without using the web > proxy.
