From a Mac forum I'm subscribed to, and my own tests (on an iBook G4
with 10.4.8) here is what I know:

- The new features are disabled by default and, when activated, are an
effect only on very specific (and uncommon) apps like UCSF Chimera
(http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera) and requires specific equipment
(http://www.reald.com/scientific/crystaleyes.asp).
- All seems fine on PPC, but there are multiple reports of a problem on
Intel (division by zero which prevents OpenOffice from starting).
- On my own little iBook G4, all KDE apps (fink-compiled), Gimp (from
gimp.app) and OpenOffice (official standalone installer) work fine after
the upgrade.
- I haven't tried compiling anything.
