I've been having this problem for a while, and I'm not sure what's
causing it. Maxima seems to be having some kind of problem with the
load command. If I try a command like: load("specfun"); like the help
says to, it fails with the following message:

I get a similar message if I try to invoke a command that would
automatically load a file, like: eigenvectors(matrix([0, 1], [1,
0])); . These commands both worked in previous versions of Maxima,
and I'm not sure when they stopped working. The load command will
work, of course, if I give the full path to the files in question.
By the way, fink --version gives: Package manager version: 0.26.1
Distribution version: 0.8.1.rsync i386
