Thanks for responding to my questions promptly.
As you suggested I ran self-update
odouls:~ prachi$ fink selfupdate-rsync
and then update-all
odouls:~ prachi$ fink update-all

That did successfully update the fink software, but the problem is
still persistent.
Also, my fink distribution is 0.8.1.
odouls:~ prachi$ fink --version
Package manager version: 0.26.4
Distribution version: 0.8.1.rsync powerpc

Is there anything I missed?
