I first asked about this in Nov 2007, but it didn't generate a response.

OS 10.4.11, Intel iMac, Latest Fink unstable tree activated, all
updates current, using Gnome desktop.

Note that everything appears to be working except that the desktop
icons have all reverted to generic document icons with a small red
"x" in the middle.

The "Applications" menu does not work, but that is how it behaves on
a PPC Mac and (I believe) is expected. The "Actions" menu allows me
to open a "Run Application" window, which opens showing a generic
document icon as described above. The icons for "Help" (lifesaver
ring) and "Cancel" (script "x") do appear.

I believe, but do not recall for sure, that this happened when I
removed an installation of wine. I might have issued a "fink purge
wine" command.

I have tried rebuilding everything related which I can think of with
no success. I have since reinstalled wine and have successfully used
it to run Windows applications.

As mentioned above, the problem is superficially aesthetic, since
everything else appears to work. I am concerned, however, that the
loss of icons might indicate other problems yet hidden. In the
interest of learning, I'm hoping someone could point me to the
missing link (no pun intended!) and how to restore the icons.

Thanks,

Stan
