With (possibly slightly patched) system-tetex you can theoretically have "any" TeX, so also TeXLive installed on the system. The only problem is that system-tetex wants to have some specific files on specific places (based on the assumption that you had gwTeX installed) and you need to either fake those files or fix system-tetex.
