The gcc4.0 you're seeing is that from Xcode. 
According to http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/gcc42, gcc42 is 
in the stable tree for OS 10.4 or higher, so there's something else 
going on here.  Check /sw/etc/fink.conf and see whether the 
Distribution: line says 10.4 .
