I thin this is the case. The user "unknown" doe not seem to be right 
here. Fink takes the user for which to run the su command from the 
ownership of one of the files or directories in /sw/fink/ (forgot which 
one, and too lazy to decrypt fink's code). What does

   ls -la /sw/fink

give?
