The kernel mode _shouldn't_ matter.

I couldn't reproduce this error; I got identical results using dx on a
32-bit Fink and a 64-bit Fink.  However, machine can only run a 32-bit
kernel.

Do you get the same result when booting with a 32-bit kernel and using
dx from the 64-bit Fink tree?
