Hi,

Does this list accept email from non-members? Guess I'll find out. I
just wanted to pass this on.

My fink selfupdate was failing with the ./Commmand/touch.t test on line
21. After a little poking around on the net (which suggested this only
happens on network shares), and in the code, I figured out that the problem
was poor time synchronization between the client where I was doing the
build, and the server.

The test creates a file, sleeps a second, then touches the file, and
checks

This will fail if the server's clock is more than a second ahead of
the client's. The initial mod time is set by the server when the
file is created. The touch command explicitly sets the file mod
time to the current time (on the machine where it runs). So the
test fails, because after touchging the file, it is not newly touched
like it should be.

Properly syncing my client solved this problem. Periodic updates
always seem to stick apple.com back into my /etc/ntp.conf file, even
though I keep insisting that's not what I want. So I fixed ntp.conf
on the client, restarted the ntpd process, and everything built fine.

    tom
