Could be the cause is disk space! When I returned home recently I had let build
the package with Apple's GCC 4.2 (by manipulating the sym-links in /usr/bin).
As with my first attempt I had a form on the screen telling me that disk space
was becoming short. Almost 8 min later the build process stopped with exactly
the same error message.

After having cleaned the disk from the remains of gcc46-4.6.2-1000 package I
have left 2¾ GB. I'm going to remove unused localisation data and cache files
of my web browsers. How much free disk space do I need? The swap files are
created on another volume.

Government is actually the worst failure of civilized man. There has never been
a really good one, and even those that are most tolerable are arbitrary, cruel,
grasping and unintelligent.
