I remember I had a similar problem in gcc44 and looking back at my
emails I found this:
I notice that we have a couple other reports of this
and they all seem to be on darwin8. My guess is that
we are tickling an ld64 bug in Xcode 2.5 since there are
no reports from a 32-bit Intel machine on darwin9. I guess
we should disable the 64-bit build of libjava on the 10.4
variants for gcc44 and gcc45.

but I appreciate I shouldn't expect people to keep my old
configuration going!
Unless, someone has a better suggestion, I guess I will see if I can
use gcc44 when gcc45 or gcc46 is called for.
