Thanks, I get this after dpkg -S wcstools

wcstools: /sw/bin/wcstools
wcstools: /sw/share/doc/wcstools/COPYING
wcstools: /sw/share/doc/wcstools/README
wcstools: /sw/share/doc/wcstools
wcstools: /sw/share/man/man1/wcstools.1

So you get the same problem after installing the package. Do you mean this 
update should be done internally by the developers and cannot be done with 
Fink? 

They announce latest version as wcstools-3.8.8 from their ftp site ( 
ftp://cfa-ftp.harvard.edu/pub/gsc/WCSTools/ ).
