No, you're supposed to be able to have both flavors simultaneously, which is why they are install in versioned directories (e.g. /sw/lib/perl5/5.12.4/ ). What's problematic here is that the *perl5123* packages are sticking files in /sw/lib/perl5/5.12.4/ instead of /sw/lib/perl5/5.12.3.
